Managing anxiety: don't panic!
Anxiety management with laughter! How can managing anxiety possibly be funny? When you hear Rachel's stories of how she overcame panic attacks you will know. Listen, learn and laugh as she tells you how to become an anxiety sleuth!

This is an inspiring speech, hilarious, practical and relevant. All women have experienced anxiety. Whether it's social anxiety, speaking in public, or coping with the menopause, pregnancy or motherhood, anxiety is widespread. Everyone's felt a dry mouth, heart pounding or blushing. Even panic attacks are commoner than we think. They produce a negative self-concept so women hide their suffering. Let's not panic about anxiety - let's opt for peace and calm instead. Ah! Relaxed at last.

Managing anxiety is something that Rachel knows about from personal experience.
"Several years ago I suffered from debilitating panic attacks. They were dreadful. They can consume and ruin your life and knock your self-esteem and self-confidence. I got myself through that awful time and overcame them. There were many things that helped me, including meditation, the Feldenkrais Method and becoming an anxiety management sleuth."
Rachel is the author of the book "Midlife and Happiness", in which a whole chapter is devoted to her successful battle with anxiety: "Oceans of calm: Overcoming anxiety in a time of transition."

She is also the author of the very popular CD set, now in its 3rd edition, "Happy not hassled: Using meditation to manage your emotions and find contentment". She has been meditating regularly since 1987, has attended weekend meditation retreats and a nine day one, and now likes to teach it, especially to people who think they can't do it. Her meditation helped her a great deal in reducing her anxiety.

She's also been a voluntary counsellor on a crisis line for five years, has completed a course in mindfulness based cognitive therapy, and is currently training in the Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), and Simple Energy Techniques (SET).

Rachel is neither a psychiatrist nor a psychologist and fully supports people seeking appropriate medical and psychological support. She also knows that many people will not seek out such assistance until they have been able to let go of the shame they feel.
"If by telling my story of panic attacks and managing anxiety I can help just one other person avoid the agony then it is worth it."
Ideal for:
  • Any time slot: breakfast, lunch, evening or plenary sessions.
  • For audiences of any number.
  • For a speech duration of 45 minutes to 90 minutes.
  • For any audience who want to be managing anxiety and stress better and experiencing greater calm.
Managing anxiety one step at a time
Managing anxiety can be done one step at a time, unless of course you're in a hurry!

Anxiety management can't possibly be funny, can it? This is a serious business, isn't it? Well it used to be until Rachel got hold of it. When you hear Rachel's stories of how she overcame panic attacks you will know that it is possible to be serious and funny all at the same time.
"The trouble with managing anxiety is that many of us don't manage it at all. Instead, what we do is to try and hide it or avoid it until we become so afraid of anxiety that we come to fear the anxiety itself. We start off with anxiety, and then we add fear of anxiety on top of the anxiety, and then just to doubly scare ourselves we add fear of the fear on top of that. Did you get that? It makes for a panic burger, the lot, thanks, with dread on top!"
Let's talk anxiety. Let's ditch the dread. Let's stop the panic. All women experience anxiety at some time in their lives. Whether it's social anxiety, money worries, being a mum, speaking in public, coping with the menopause, illness, divorce, having teenagers, or more, anxiety is widespread.

Even panic attacks are commoner than we think. It's just we get so embarrassed about them, and they create such a negative self-concept, that we suffer in silence, and we imagine no one else has them.

OTHER WOMEN HAVE THEM!
"At one speech I gave, when I told the story of how I overcame my panic attacks, a woman came up to me afterwards and said, "You are so confident, you can't possibly have had panic attacks." I said simply, "Even confident women can have panic attacks."
Anxiety management? Do we need it? I'm now opting for peace and calm instead. Are you coming with me?

This is an inspiring speech based on real life. Ah! Relaxed at last. Except for the aching ribs.
